AXIS HUNTS

Axis deer are beautiful and muscular animals. They are also known as chital or spotted deer.  These deer are not native to this area, originally from Asia,  and were imported as game animals.  They now roam freely throughout this area as well as most of Texas.  Because they are not indigenous animals, there is no regulated hunting season and tags are not required.  They can be hunted year-round and produce antlers during any season.  The meat from the Axis deer is lean and delicious and is usually preferred over venison.  The hides of the Axis are coveted for use as decoration, furniture coverings and small rugs.
